National Honor Society
The St. Mary School National Honor Society usually meets on the second Wednesday of the month during lunch.
The 2011 induction scheduled for Wednesday, December 14 immediately following the 10 a.m. School Mass.
Membership in the NHS is based on four areas:
- Scholarship – the student must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale).
- Leadership – the student displays leadership in the classroom, at work, and in the community and has successfully held (or is currently holding) a leadership position in school or community activities.
- Service – the student must be active in service projects in the school and community.
- Character – the student must demonstrate integrity, behavior, ethics, and cooperation with both students and faculty.
To be eligible for membership in the NHS, a student must:
- -be a sophomore, junior, or senior.
- -have attended St. Mary School for at least one semester.
- -be nominated by the faculty council at the end of the first marking period.
The St. Mary School chapter of the NHS provides coverage of the school office during lunch periods, volunteers at the Leelanau Department of Human Services’ Holiday Store at Christmas time, and assists the Knights of Columbus sponsor blood drives for the Northwest Michigan Blood Program.
