Health Department Update
Wednesday, October 21, 2009
To all Benzie-Leelanau Schools,
As of 11:55 a.m. this morning the school based clinics are on hold due to new information on the lack of availability of vaccine. We will be having a clinic at the Lake Leelanau office on Monday 10/26 starting at 8:30 for the highest “at risk” within the 5 priority populations. The Benzie office of the health department will also be having a clinic on 10/29 for these same priority groups. These clinics will be first come, first serve. No appointment is necessary.
They include:
- pregnant women
- regular care givers of babies that are less than 6 months old
- health care workers
- children 6 months to 4 years
- individuals 5-64 years of age with certain high risk conditions (such as heart disease, asthma, immune compromised, etc.
As we receive more vaccine, we will expand the groups of people eligible to receive the 2009 H1N1 vaccine. There WILL be enough vaccine for everyone within the next few months and our plans to do it the school will resume.
Please call if you have any questions. I know many are concerned and will not be happy with this decision by our Medical Director but this is the most prudent use of the temporarily limited supplies.
